1950s Danish Theater Chairs by Poul Henningsen
1950s Danish Theater Chairs by Poul Henningsen
Rare theatre seats designed by iconic designer & architect Poul Henningsen for the Betty Nansen Theater in Copenhagen, Denmark. We have reupholstered these pieces in a vibrant wool basketweave with a rich blue, maintaining a nod to the original upholstery. The black base is accented with curved gold accents on the back.
A 1984 exhibition booklet from the Mobilia Museum includes the following details:
"In 1957 Poul Henningsen designed this chair to the Young People's Theatre (now called the Betty Nansen Theatre) in Copenhagen. In connection with a recent conversion of the auditorium and the foyer a number of remaining chairs was given to Mobilia Museum in amicable arrangement with the theatre. The rest of the chairs in the theatre was modified at the same occasion: pedestal with a stronger tilt."
