A stunning feat of sustainable form and function, this large lounge chair by Samuel Aguirre is both graphically striking and expertly engineered for strength & flexibility. Made entirely of natural fibers, this chair and his correlating furniture pieces are fit for a lifetime of use while also being completely compostable. 

Samuel's work has been shown in multiple institutions including the Museo Nacional de Antropologia (Mexico City), Robert C Williams Museum of Paper Making (Atlanta) and the New Britain Museum of American Art (New Britain, CT) and the RISD Museum (Providence). Samuel has received "Best of Year" and “NYCxDesign” awards from Interior Design Magazine, was listed in Sight Unseen’s 2025 American Design Hot List.

For this work, a clay-like compound of natural fibers and binders are molded onto a cardboard armature and allowed to air dry while settling into it’s final shape. The process is rooted in ancient paper making materials and techniques. Once cured, the chair is structurally sound and meant for everyday use, indoors. Each chair is made by hand and archival.
